Good Earth Produce & Garden Center:
An Indoor Farmer's Market and Greenhouse
When it comes to the products we carry, our focus is on plant health and bloom. We have known our growers for years, and we hold them to a very high standard. Our plants are cared for and inspected routinely throughout the day. The greenhouse provides the proper amount of sun and shade for the hundreds of varieties that we carry and protects our delicate plants and flowers (and customers) in inclement weather.
Our covered facility houses row upon row of seasonal flowers, indoor and outdoor plants, hanging baskets, potted flowers, ferns, and gardening supplies for the customer with a green thumb. Whether you are a seasoned gardener or merely a beginner, our garden center staff are eager to take your questions, offer advice, and listen to your tips as well!
The Farmer's Market
What makes a farmer’s market a farmer’s market? It begins with relationships. Good Earth owner, Rick Catts, grew up with the farmers who now fill his stands. The relationships he has built with the area's local farmers have turned into tables heaped high with seasonal fruits and vegetables. Fresh produce arrives at all hours of the day from local farms where it has been picked just that morning. Other unique items are hand-selected and brought in from markets in Atlanta and Columbus, such as farm fresh eggs, pimento cheese, pickled vegetables, jams, jellies, and freshly baked breads.
The most important relationship, however, is the one we share with our customers. We invite you to shop but also to chat. Ask us where our peaches are from. Tell us how you dress a baked potato. Do you put ham hocks in your white acres? Do you have a special request for an "impossible to find" item? Don’t hesitate to ask! We can even accommodate orders.
Indeed, if there is one thing Rick Catts loves to do, it’s to bring new produce to his customers. It is the reason he built a farm stand to begin with and the reason he has grown it to the size it is today.
Whether in the greenhouse or the market, we look forward to seeing you in our store!
History of Good Earth Produce & Garden Center
Good Earth Produce & Garden Center started as a small market in Augusta, Georgia in 1992, owned then (and now) by Rick Catts, who got started in the business of produce, seasonal items, and garden plants in 1986.
The market, at that time called Rick's Produce, outgrew it's location and moved to Aiken, SC in 1995. At its new location in Aiken, Rick set up a large lot, eventually transforming it into a permanent building. Rick's Produce was hugely popular in Aiken and once again outgrew its location and customer base. At that time (2010) Rick expanded the business to Augusta, GA where he is currently located on Davis Rd, now under the name Good Earth Produce & Garden Center. The market is known for its fresh, local produce, beautiful plants, pumpkins in the Fall, and gorgeous Fraser Firs at Christmas time. Rick's Produce remains open in Aiken from September through December with seasonal items.
